Webmaster Complains About Panda But Scrapes Google Play Content

Google Play ScrapI am not sure if this is funny or really sad. I spotted a thread at the Google Webmaster Help forums where a webmaster was asking how can he recover from being hit by the Panda algorithm.

So Google's John Mueller recommends he create "unique, compelling, and high-quality content." But then he goes on so John takes a deeper look and asks why is he stealing and scraping the content off Google Play when it is against the terms of service of Google Play.

John said:

Additionally, it looks like you may be scraping the content from Google Play -- are you aware of the terms of service there? For example on http://play.google.com/about/terms.html it mentions "You agree not to access (or attempt to access) Google Play by any means other than through the interface that is provided by Google, unless you have been specifically allowed to do so in a separate agreement with Google. You specifically agree not to access (or attempt to access) Google Play through any automated means (including use of scripts, crawlers, or similar technologies) (...)"

I don't know if I find this sad or funny.

(1) Panda is made to take sites that are just repurposing content without adding any value add.

(2) This guy is taking Google's own content to try to rank.

Alan Jackson to Celebrate July 4 Early at Military Base in Oklahoma

Getty Images for Country Thunder

Independence Day celebrating will start a bit early for military personnel and their families stationed at Fort Sill, Okla.. Alan Jackson will put on a special show on Saturday, June 30, in honor of the July 4 holiday, with Gloriana and Easton Corbin also on the bill.

The 53-year-old country legend will undoubtedly play "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)," which he wrote in the aftermath of the devastating terrorist attacks on September 11. "After 9/11, I played at the Pentagon and sang 'Where Were You' sitting there looking at survivors that were still bandaged up, with their families and the people who died," Alan recounts to The Boot. "Those are some tough shows. But at the same time, it makes you feel good if people get something out of it."

The Grand Ole Opry member is currently out on the road, promoting his latest CD, Thirty Miles West, which was released earlier this month. The project's debut single, "So You Don't Have to Love Me Anymore," is in the chart's Top 30 and climbing. The song, Alan reveals, struck a chord with him the first time he heard it.

"Well, at first it raised the hair on my arms, when I heard the demo," he tells The Boot. "It was a really good version, too. It was one of those songs that, when I heard it, it's the kind of song that made me want to be in country music. I'm such a big fan of that kind of song. Sad songs, or break-up songs, and heartache songs are always the best ones to bring that emotion out and are actually the easiest to write as a writer."

Tickets for the 7:00 PM show are available to the public, and can be purchased here.

Alan will play in Colorado tonight (June 28) and Texas tomorrow night, before heading to Oklahoma. Keep track of his concert schedule here.

Thermaltake mounts an external fan on a gaming mouse ? Video ...

Do you feel the tension during a game? Get so frustrated/excited/scared that it makes your hands sweat? Well, Thermaltake has got that covered with its Tt eSports Black Element Cyclone gaming mouse, the world?s first gaming mouse with an externally mounted fan.

The Black mouse series originally saw a release in 2010 and received positive feedback,? so naturally the 2012 edition had to be something pretty special. The Cyclone edition brings a unique outside fan system, which is designed to cool your sweaty hand after gaming all day. It?s not the first mouse to feature a fan, but the fact it?s exterior, makes it stand out.

The laser sensor has an accuracy rating of 6,500dpi, which should be accurate enough for any game you want to play. If your hand gets too cold, you can choose to detach the fan at any time to change it back into a more typical gaming mouse. Other external customizations include a choice of five colors (blue, red, aqua, green and pink), which you can change at any time by pressing the profile button.

The weight of the mouse can also be adjusted in the base of the unit in lots of 4.5 grams up to a total of 22.5 grams. So if you prefer a heavier mouse for first person shooters, but like it lighter when playing an MMO, you can add and remove weight as you see fit. And don?t worry about the noise levels this fan produces with the fan turned on. It outputs a very low 21.7 dB

To accompany the color changes, cooling fan, and weight adjutsments, Thermaltake also gves you access to software customixations, too. The mouse comes with 9 customizable macros keys and 128kb of on-board memory. Using the included software interface you can store up to 45 macro keys and 5 gaming profiles, which should be more than enough for the types of game you play.

The fan might be a gimmicky idea, but it?s certainly going to stand out at a LAN party. And even if you prefer not to use it the other customizations on offer should make this a worthwhile investment. Unfortunately we don?t know how much of an investment yet as the price hasn?t been announced.

BSU alum Jarred Rome qualifies for 2012 London Games

Boise State hall of fame thrower Jarred Rome (2000) qualified for his second summer Olympics Thursday night in Eugene, finishing second in the discus qualifying.

Rome, the defending U.S. discus champion, earned his second career Olympic berth with a throw of 207-10.

Lance Brooks dominated the meet, but still had not thrown standard when he stepped into the circle for his final throw. Not throwing to an Olympic 'A' standard meant; even with a win at the trials, Brooks would not go to the Olympics unless he threw beyond 213-3.

With the final throw of the competition, Brooks tossed 213-9, beating the standard mark by six inches.

When Brooks qualified, he knocked Ian Waltz off the U.S. Olympic team. Waltz is the husband of former Idaho State track star Stacy Dragila.

Jason Young also qualified for the U.S. Olympic team in discus.

Did Obama Just Get His Mojo Back?

And now that he's said this, he's going to move on from this issue. Fast. "What we won?t do?what the country can?t afford to do?is refight the political battles of two years ago or go back to the way things were," said Obama.?The president once said he welcomed a fight over health care, but he doesn't want one now. Obama aides expect and hope that Republicans will want to make the election a fight over health care, but their view is that the country does not want to go through a health care fight again. They compare the situation to the contentious Bush v. Gore ruling; liberals wanted to fight another round, but the country wanted to move on.

Impact of Immigration Ruling Weighed for Ala. Student Status Checks

Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled on Arizona's immigration law, however muddled or open to interpretation that decision may be, the state of Alabama will soon be filing new legal arguments defending its requirement that schools check the immigration status of new students and other provisions of its own tough law.

Two challenges to Alabama's law, including to the schools provision, are pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, in Atlanta. A three-judge panel of that court heard arguments in March, but the judges stated that they would wait until the Supreme Court ruled in the Arizona case before completing their legal review of the Alabama measure.

The Alabama law's Section 28 requires public schools to "determine whether the student enrolling in public school was born outside the jurisdiction of the United States or is the child of an alien not lawfully present in the United States." The provision has been enjoined by the courts, and thus has not been in force. But its mere passage prompted an exodus of immigrant families from Alabama last year.

Arizona's law had no similar provision, but advocates on both sides of the immigration debate were looking for ammunition in the high court's June 25 decision in Arizona v. United States.

In the majority opinion, Justice Anthony M. Kennedy struck a tone that emphasized the preeminence of the federal government in immigration matters, and he said that "discretion in the enforcement of immigration law embraces immediate human concerns."
But he also agreed that "Arizona bears many of the consequences of unlawful immigration."

The court struck down three provisions of that state's law, dealing with a requirement that aliens carry registration documents, prohibitions on working and applying for work, and a requirement that the police arrest those they believe are removable under federal law. But the justices upheld a provision some view as the heart of Arizona's law, which requires state and local police officers to attempt to determine the immigration status of those they lawfully stop if there is "reasonable suspicion" the person is in the United States illegally.

Justice Kennedy said that federal immigration law encourages the sharing of information between federal and state law enforcement authorities. He said that provision could be subject to further challenge when it was applied in practice.

Gov. Robert Bentley of Alabama, a Republican, said in a statement shortly after the decision that while his state's law has many provisions similar to Arizona's, "the laws are not identical."

"State laws on immigration are required because the federal government has refused to enforce its own immigration policies," the governor said.

Alabama's law, including the schools provision, has been challenged in a lawsuit by the Obama administration purely on "pre-emption" grounds. That is, the administration argues that the law's provisions intrude on an area where federal law is supreme. A coalition of civil rights groups, meanwhile, has challenged the provisions on 14th Amendment equal-protection grounds in addition to pre-emption.

Michael K.T. Tan, a staff lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union's Immigrants' Rights Project, based in San Francisco, said the Supreme Court's Arizona decision bolstered the case against Alabama's school immigration checks.

"The upshot of the Supreme Court's decision is that states have no business doing what Alabama has done," said Tan, whose group is one of those challenging the law. "The [education] provisions are aimed at attrition through enforcement, driving out certain groups of people from the state."

Mary Bauer, the general counsel of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a Birmingham, Ala.-based group that is among the civil rights groups challenging the law, said the Supreme Court's rejection of a provision of the Arizona requirement that aliens carry registration documents was helpful to the challenge to the Alabama schools provision.

"The Supreme Court said the state may not enact its own alien-registration scheme," Bauer said. "And at the end of the day, that is really what [Alabama's] Section 28 is. The state's notion that it is merely gathering general data on [undocumented] children is silly and disingenuous to us."

"What they want to do is create a list of who is undocumented, and in that sense it is an alien-registration scheme," Bauer said.

In court documents in the 11th Circuit, Alabama has argued that "Section 28 simply involves data collection and does not affect a child's ability to enroll in public school."

Michael M. Hethmon, the general counsel of the Immigration Reform Law Institute, an affiliate of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, took a different view of the Arizona decision.

"On a superficial level, the [Arizona] decision supports that particular provision of the Alabama law," said Hethmon, who helped write Alabama's immigration law. He said the underlying principle of the Arizona provision upheld by the Supreme Court is that "Congress has virtually mandated cooperation in information exchange" between state and federal authorities.

"That's what the Alabama [schools] section is all about"--the collection of data by state education officials about a fast-growing student population that has special needs in the schools, he said.

The supplemental briefs from both sides in the 11th Circuit about the effects of the Arizona decision on the Alabama case are due early next month.

First Look and Review! Carthay Circle Restaurant in Disney ...

After years of watching the progress of Disney California Adventure?s expansion, and in recent months being able to see the tower of Carthay Circle Theater from behind construction walls, it?s so surreal that I have now actually dined there?twice!

*Please note, the lighting inside Carthay at night is so dark. Many of my photos do not do it justice.

Carthay Circle Restaurant Marquee

Carthay Circle Premiere!

Atmosphere

Inspired by the original Carthay Circle Theatre in Hollywood where Walt Disney?s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered in 1937, the restaurant is about as close to a true replica as you can get.

The theming inside is true to the period as well. It features fabulous old photos of Walt as well as memorabilia from Snow White. From the moment you walk into Carthay Circle Restaurant, you feel as though you have stepped back in time; back to the ?Golden Age? of Hollywood.

When facing Carthay, there are three doors. The two on the left are entrances to the restaurant, and the door to the right is the entrance to the private 1901 Lounge (for which we will soon have a review, too!).? Lovely cast members are there to get the door for you and welcome you to Carthay Circle.

Welcome to Carthay

Upon entering there is a rather large lounge area. To the left is a spacious waiting area to enjoy after you?ve checked in for your meal, and to the right there is a separate room ? The Carthay Circle Lounge ? where the bar and extra seating is located.

Carthay Circle Lounge

In the lounge, you can get drinks and small bites.?No reservations are needed to visit the lounge, and you are more than welcome to grab a drink or appetizer while you are waiting for your table.

Unfortunately, we didn?t have a chance to try the lounge, but we will be back for a full review soon!

Reception/Waiting Area

The reception desk and waiting area are quite spacious. Here you will find plenty of seating and lots of fun memorabilia to look at.

Several images from the evening Snow White premiered hang next to a ?Police Pass? from that night and a gorgeous display of Seven Dwarfs animation cells, which were said to be the only animation art that hung in the home of Walt Disney.

Since you will be more than likely overwhelmed by the beauty of the reception area, friendly cast members point you in the right direction to check-in.

Once it is time to be taken to your table, you are given an option: stairs or elevator to the dining room?? We took a different route on each visit!

When you have reached the top floor, you enter a gorgeous photo-lined hallway that leads you to the main dining room of Carthay.

Eats

Chef Andrew Sutton from Napa Rose serves as Executive Chef here at Carthay Circle while Gloria Tae, also from Napa Rose is on board as Chef de Cuisine.

While Napa Rose focuses on a Northern California type of cuisine, Carthay Circle dishes are inspired by sunny Southern California.?As I write this post, I have eaten at Carthay twice, once with a fixed menu and once ordering off of the ?Summer? dinner menu. So, photos will be from both meals.

Summer Dinner Menu

Place Setting

Bread Service
Bread service at Carthay was different on each of my two visits. The first night (the fixed menu and special event), we were served Sourdough with Red Bell Pepper Hummus.

The bread is not served warm, which I prefer; but the Red Bell Pepper Hummus was fabulous, so I didn?t mind so much!

Sourdough Bread with Red Bell Pepper Hummus Spread

The second visit included Sourdough with Salted Butter.?I love salted butter. It?s so simple, but really gives the butter a great flavor.

The bread was again served at room temperature.?So, I?m guessing that this is the way the bread is served at all times.

Sourdough with Salted Butter

Appetizers
We tried the House Biscuits, which I highly recommend.?The night that we ate at Carthay with a fixed menu, I was so sad that the biscuits weren?t being served. So when we were seated for the second visit, I immediately told our server we needed those ASAP!

House Biscuits Served with Apricot Honey Butter

The biscuits are stuffed with white cheddar, bacon, and jalapeno, and served with apricot honey butter.?Normally I am not a jalapeno fan, but the flavor in these is very mild and the sweetness of the butter also tones it down.

There are a lot of flavors going on inside of these little balls of happiness.?Sweet, savory and spicy; they?re served up warm and gooey. Be careful. I ate almost an entire order.

House Biscuit Close Up

Additional appetizers we have tried are as follows. First up, the Halibut Ceviche, which was part of our fixed menu, special event meal night. It includes avocado and tomatillo-cilantro essence served with crisp plantain chips.

I will tell you now that I am not a seafood fan, therefore, I am automatically not a ceviche fan. I did however try this because, well, it?s my job.

The dish was fin, and the plantain chips were awesome. My husband, who enjoys halibut and ceviche, ate the entire thing!

Carthay Halibut Ceviche

Another appetizer we received on our fixed menu night were the Signature Firecracker Duck Wings.

These were so amazing that we actually ordered them again on our second visit. The funny thing? I probably wouldn?t have ordered them had I not have been forced to have them at the special event we attended!

They are crispy, spicy, and a little sweet, too. Served with soy, lime, and sriracha chili sauce, they are truly one of my new favorite dishes at the Disneyland Resort.

Signature Firecracker Duck Wings

Entrees
The first entree I experienced at Carthay was the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp on Summer Roasted Corn, Grilled Zucchini and Basil Salsa.?Remember that ?not a seafood fan? thing? The fixed menu at the event helped me to branch out, and I?m so glad that I did.?The shrimp were cooked to perfection and the bacon is actually crispy, which I seldom see in ?bacon wrapped? items.

The soup-ish salsa it came with, though? It was beyond delicious.?I literally wanted to lick my bowl clean.?Had I been at home, I would?ve.?The salsa was so sweet and creamy ? and amazingly enough, I was told by a cast member that there is zero cream used in it, making the dish somewhat ?healthier? for you!

It alone should be an individual menu item.

Carthay Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

On the night of the fixed menu event, my husband had the Sauteed Northern Halibut with Relish of Roasted Bell Pepper, Caper Berry and Orange. He really enjoyed it, and is very picky about his fish, so it must have been fab.?I passed on trying this one?

Carthay Sauteed Northern Halibut

When we came back the following week, we tried some other options. I had the Pappardelle Pasta with House-made Chicken Meatballs, Tear Drop Tomatoes, fresh Basal, and Yellow Tomato Essence. I really enjoyed this dish.

Although this particular pasta is made in house, most of the pastas at Carthay are not. This one is amazing and reminded me of the fresh pastas I had in Italy last year. The sauce was also nice, and the meat balls were tasty.? They really didn?t have a ton of flavor, but overall I really enjoyed the dish.

Pappardelle Pasta with House-made Chicken Meatballs

Chicken Meatball Close Up

My husband went with the Udon Noodle Bowl with Red Thai Curry Broth, Shrimp & Mussels, Shitake Mushrooms, Bok Choy, Daikon (white radish, I looked it up!), Mint, Cashews, and fresh Coriander. This dish came highly recommended by one of the managing Cast Members who visited our table.

My husband likes seafood and udon, so he went for it and he really loved it. Me, I tried the noodles ? which were great, but that was as far as I was willing to go!

Udon Noodle Bowl

Desserts
The Dessert menu at Carthay is Seasonal, so it?s exciting to think that it will be changing every few months! We were able to check out a few different dishes, all of which were spectacular.

Carthay Summer Dessert Menu

Personally, I love fruity desserts, so I was really happy about all of the seasonal fruit menu items. On our fixed menu night we were brought out two dishes to try: the first was Toasted Lemon Pound Cake with Fresh Marinated Blueberries, Lemon Curd Cream, and Tahitian Vanilla Chantilly. This dish was fantastic; fresh, tart, creamy with the sweet blueberries. Right up my alley.

Toasted Lemon Pound Cake with Fresh Marinated Blueberries

I even found a Hidden Mickey while I was eating!!!

Hidden Mickey Blueberries!

Next up was the Seasonal Fruit Pie with Whipped Brown Sugar Sour Cream. Forgive me, but I can?t remember the exact flavor of the fruit. This one was my husband?s and I was enjoying my blueberries so much, I didn?t pay much attention to his.

I did have a bite and it was good; more like a pastry than a pie. I think it was some sort of berry/apple type of number. I?ll pay more attention next time!

Saving the best for last, we ordered the Fried Banana Split Monte Cristo Sundae on our second visit.?This little plate of amazingness consisted of raspberry and chocolate fudge ice creams, and warm caramel rum bananas.

Perfect to share, this one won?t disappoint.

Kids? Eats

It may sound silly, but one of the things that excites me most about Carthay is their Children?s Menu.

The offerings here are unlike anything I have ever seen on a Disneyland Resort Children?s Menu.?Forget chicken strips and hamburgers, Carthay is giving little ones a chance to eat sophisticated meals designed with kids in mind.

There are several dishes on here that I?d love to try too! I?m seriously considering ordered the Sloppy Joes or Chicken Schnitzel on my next visit! Oh, and those desserts? Let?s just go with, YUM!

Children's Menu

My boys are both major carnivores, so they went with the exact same meal, the Grilled Petit Filet of Beef with Broccoli and Crispy Macaroni and Cheese.? However, they switched it up and got green beans and french fries instead of the broccoli.

We did, however, take that order of Mac n? Cheese on the side, and I?m thrilled we did because it was so delish. Really rich and filling, very similar to the Mac n? Cheese at Napa Rose.

The desserts on the children?s menu also do not disappoint. My boys ordered the Green Apple Caramel Parfait Push Pop and the Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwich. They devoured them so quick, I barely managed to get a taste in!

My favorite of the two was definitely the Green Apple Caramel Parfait Push Pop: Green Apple and Lemon Raspberry Sorbets layered with caramel. It was tart, sweet, and topped with the same chocolate ?gravel? Flo?s uses on their milkshakes!

My 10 year old son really enjoyed the presentation of the Push Pop. I literally had to pry it out of his hands to try it.

This is what the Push Pop looked like after just a few minutes after my son received it. I?d say it was a hit?

My 8 year old ordered the Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwich with Chocolate Cookies and Chocolate Dipping Sauce. Basically two fresh chocolate-chocolate chip cookies with chocolate ice cream in the middle, served with a little dipping bowl full of chocolate sauce, sprinkles & whipped cream.?Heaven for my little chocolate lover.

It was really yummy, but for me, chocolate overload! There?s no way I could?ve eaten the whole thing. My 8 year old had no problem scarfing it down.

Beverages at Carthay Circle Restaurant

Carthay serves a wide variety of ?Disney? family wines, including several from John Lasseter?s winery in Napa located in Northern California.

There are also several specialty drinks as well as specialty non-alcholic drinks.?Stay tuned for a post on Carthay drinks. I need to go back just to cover beverages!

Wines sold by the glass are stored here in the center of the main dining room. There are also wines available by the bottle that are stored in several cellars throughout the restaurant.

Overall

I am thrilled that Carthay Circle Restaurant is open, and both of my meals there were absolutely fabulous.?They have an excellent variety across the board, and I think that their Children?s Menu is perhaps my new favorite in all of the Disneyland Resort.

The dishes are creative, flavorful, and unique; and it?s a super bonus that dining includes World of Color viewing (see here for details).?I can?t wait to go back again.?But first, Aulani awaits (stay tuned for reviews from Aulani soon)!

Have you been to Carthay Circle Restaurant or Lounge yet? Any favorite items?
