MZUZU--A Karonga-based grouping, ?Jobless Corner?, has resurfaced with fresh calls on renowned Malawian rights activist Undule Mwakasungura saying it now wants him to contest for presidency in the 2014 elections and not as a ?mere? Karonga North East legislator as they earlier announced.
The group?s chairperson, Stevenson Simusokwe, who also sits in as publicity secretary for Karonga Youth for Justice and Development (KYJD) which recently shot to fame for trying to stage a protest against Paladin?s Kayelekera Uranium Mine, said they feel that it is not only the people of Karonga who need Mwakasungura in Malawi politics but the whole Malawi nation at large.
According to Simusokwe, Mwakasungura has the guts and charm to lead the Malawi nation, adding that they will do anything they can to persuade Mwakasungura into joining Malawian politics. He highlighted that Mwakasungura has contributed enough to the Malawi nation as a human rights activist and that it was now time for him to bring change into the country by joining active politics.
?All our past leaders have proved to be failures. Malawi needs new people with new ideas, and we feel like he [Undule Mwakasungura] that type of person who is fit to lead this country. No one needs to be told of how courageous and how dedicated to serving common people he is,? Simusokwe told Marapost.
Mwakasungura could not be reached for comment as his number could not be reached even after trying it several times.
